Veteran actress Anne Bancroft has joined the cast of the upcoming film "Spanglish," Variety reports.

Bancroft will play Tea Leoni's mother in the romantic comedy, starring alongside Adam Sandler.

"Spanglish" will be directed and produced by James L. Brooks, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Shooting is expected to begin by the end of the year.

Currently, Bancroft is producing the off-Broadway play "Squeeze Box" with husband Mel Brooks, with plans for a possible feature film version.
