NEW YORK -- She has made two road movies, Boys on the Side and Mad Love, but has never taken a road trip.
So before attending the New York Film Festival, Drew Barrymore drove across the country with a friend.
"Everyone was like, `Where you going?' I'm like, `No plans. Lots of maps.'
"The very first night, we stopped in Joshua Tree and it was the night of the meteor showers. Cosmic, no pun intended. We sat on top of the RV, making wishes as it rained stars. It was the most romantic thing imaginable."
Before you get any ideas, Barrymore took the trip with a female friend. She ain't telling us who her new beau is.
"He's an actor," Barrymore teases, "but I want to keep him secret for a while."
Barrymore and Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson broke up months ago.
Could it have been over the now-infamous flashing incident on David Letterman's show?
"I just did his show again and kept my clothes on. I had cleavage though.... I love cleavage."
We love your cleavage too, Drew.
Her next film, Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You, is expected in Calgary early next year.

HER CHILDHOOD: "I felt awkward around kids my own age. I was always more comfortable around adults 'cause I had these responsibilities, so I didn't really reach out to kids and they didn't really reach out to me. I really, like, had no friends in school, except for this one girl Jenny, who was awesome. I used to feel her pain and how she felt being awkward. And I knew one day she'd be so much more interesting than these girls that were more popular and beautiful and hated us."
WHAT JENNY'S DOING: "She's writing fanzines and cool hip stuff, way more advanced than the hip I could even imagine. She's just what I believed she would be. It's the swan theory."
