Kim Basinger is in talks to star in a new movie based on John Irving's novel "A Widow for One Year," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The film, tentatively titled "Door in the Floor," centers on Ruth, a writer in her 30's still suffering from emotional childhood scars.

Jeff Bridges has signed on to play Ruth's father, Ted, a children's book author fond of seducing younger women. Basinger would play Marion, the mother who has sex with her husband's 16-year-old assistant and abandons her family.

Basinger's most recent role saw her star as rapper Eminem's mother in "8 Mile," and she will next appear in "People I Know," opposite Al Pacino.
