Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro are pairing up for the drama "Things We Lost in the Fire," Variety reports.

The film centres on a widow (Berry) who invites her husband's troubled best friend to live with her and her two children. As he gradually turns his life around, he helps the family cope and confront their loss.

"Fire" is being directed by Danish helmer Susanne Bier, while Sam Mendes ("Road to Perdition") has production duties.

Berry just finished up work on "The Perfect Stranger" with Bruce Willis, while Del Toro is set to star as Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh's "Guerrila."
