Nicolas Cage is set to star in "The Weatherman," a drama that will be headed up by "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski, Variety reports.

The film, reportedly similar in tone to "About Schmidt" and "American Beauty," will see Cage play a divorced TV weatherman living in Chicago, recently promoted to a network morning show in New York. Before he makes the move, he first tries to reconcile with his estranged wife and kids.

"The Weatherman" will begin an on-location shoot in February.

Cage is currently filming the adventure movie "National Treasure" with Harvey Keitel and Christopher Plummer, expected for release next summer.
