Michael Caine up for 'Austin Powers 3'
By JAM! Movies

Michael Caine looks set to take a co-starring role in Mike Myers' much anticipated third edition of the "Austin Powers" franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter says Caine would play the role of Capt. Hendricks, a security specialist in the Royal Navy, in "Austin Powers: Goldmember".

The movie is scheduled to start shooting next month. It will hit theatres in Canada and the U.S. on July 26, 2002.

Along with reprising his role as the goofy '60s spy, Myers will also bring back Fat Bastard from 1999's "The Spy Who Shagged Me", as well as playing the title villain, Goldmember, who is reportedly blessed with an unusual ability. (We're betting it has something to do with turning whatever he, um, shags into gold.)

As previously reported, Myers will be paid a whopping $25 million for "Goldmember" against 21 percent of the movie's final gross.

Meanwhile, the prolific Caine will next be seen in "The Quiet American", in which he will play a British opium addict resentful of American colonialism in 1950s southeast Asia, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Caine's recent roles include last year's box office hit "Miss Congeniality", "Quills", and 1999's "The Cider House Rules", for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
