Carrey to tackle 'Six Million' role
By JAM! Movies

You can add "Six Million Dollar Man" to the ever-growing list of popular 1970's TV shows heading to theatres.

Variety reports that Jim Carrey and "Old School" director Todd Phillips -- also director of the upcoming "Starsky & Hutch" film -- will team up next fall for the big-screen adaptation of "The Six Million Dollar Man."

Based on the Martin Caidin novel "Cyborg," the movie version of the Lee Majors TV drama has been in development for many years. Initially conceived as an action film, it was fast-tracked as a comedy once Carrey signed on to star.

Carrey's current box-office popularity was no doubt a factor in the decision. "Bruce Almighty," his last film, has made over $470 million in the worldwide box office.

"The teaming of Jim and Todd is the perfect creative combination to launch the franchise," said Dimension Films co-chairman Bob Weinstein. "Todd is a director with proven instincts, and Jim is a superstar."

Carrey's next project, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," will be in theatres in December.
