Jim Carrey wigs out for role
By LOUIS B. HOBSON
In a recent Playboy interview he said he was looking forward to a more zen existence. "I am trying to become more zen, but that has nothing to do with my lack of hair," says Carrey. "It's for my role in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. We're about half through it now." In this film based on the popular children's novel, Carrey plays the villain, Count Olaf, who is a master of disguises. "I have to wear wigs. Tons of wigs, so it was best that I shaved my head." Carrey says he'd never heard of the Lemony Snicket books, but once he read them he saw "the wonderful opportunity to have fun just throwing on disguises." He says the wigs and the make-up are beginning to dictate how he plays each of the characters Olaf assumes. "I don't think it would surprise anyone if I admit I like playing characters with multiple personalities." Carrey will have several more opportunities to do just that especially if his planned remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty ever materializes. He is also planning to do a big-screen version of The Six Million Dollar Man. "I love playing ego and insecurity combined and The Six Million Dollar Man is ego out of control. Considering that $6 million doesn't get you a lot these days you can kind of imagine the direction our film is going to take." |
