David Caruso turned his back on TV when he left "NYPD Blue," but now he's taking another shot at a crime series.

The Zap2it.com website reports Caruso has joined the cast of "CSI: Miami," a spin-off from CBS's hit "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Caruso will play the leader of a forensics team in South Florida.

Playing alongside Caruso are Khandi Alexander ("NewsRadio"), Rory Cochrane ("Empire Records"), Emily Procter (Ainsley Hayes on "The West Wing"), and Adam Rodriguez ("Roswell").

The pilot for the new series may air as a cross-over episode with "CSI" in May, the report said.
