Jackie Chan pushes ahead with Jerry Lewis remake
By JAM! Movies

"Rush Hour 2" star Jackie Chan is poised to take on both Jerry Lewis and Elvis Presley.

Variety reports that in the wake of "Rush Hour 2's" blockbuster opening weekend, MGM is pushing ahead with a remake of the 1960 Jerry Lewis comedy "The Bellboy."

The original film, which followed the misadventures of a hapless bellboy, was set at Miami's Fontainbleu Hotel. The new twist, though, is that Chan's remake has been moved to Presley's late-career playground, the Las Vegas strip.

Specifically, the report said the remake will be set at the MGM Grand Hotel, reputed to be one of the largest hotels in the world. Built in 1993 at a cost of $1 billion, the hotel covers 115 acres at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Tropicana Ave., and is composed of four emerald green 30-storey towers with over 5,000 rooms and a 171,500 square foot casino.

After a recent renovation, the hotel was remade as a showcase for MGM's Hollywood legacy, with rooms decorated in homage to such films as "The Wizard Of Oz" and "Gone With The Wind," as well as a lion habitat, a CBS TV studio, a full concert venue, and a re-creation of the notorious Manhattan nightclub Studio 54.

In the original film, Lewis (who also directed) starred as both the luckless bellboy and as himself, checking into the hotel with his entourage.

Chan's gift for physical feats of daring should make him a good match for Lewis's slapstick prowess, although there's no indication yet whether he'll take on multiple parts in the remake.
