Couldn't Picket Fence him in
By -- Sun Media

NEW YORK -- Before Don Cheadle was chumming around with the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in the Ocean's films or picking up an Oscar nod for Hotel Rwanda, he starred as District Attorney John Littleton on the TV series Picket Fences from 1993-1995.

When asked if that was what jump-started his career, he disagreed.

"I think when I left Picket Fences it was the big jump-start for me and I opted to not come back," said Cheadle with a laugh.

"It was fine but I hated it. Hour TV is really hard and hour TV when you're the 12th person in the cast is really hard and hour TV where you're the D.A. -- I would have pages and pages of dialouge, summations, opening arguments and closings -- it was really hard."

Cheadle also felt his good-guy character was really limited on the otherwise quirky show.

"I always felt my character was a bit of the noble savage," said the actor. "He just could never do any wrong. He was the conscience of the town, I was like, 'I don't want to do that s--t.' I was like, 'Could this guy have a foot fetish or kill somebody in his past?' I was like, 'On this show this guy can't have something? A tail? Something?' "
