In addition to perfect manners and really good shoes, The Hangover star Bradley Cooper also has a keen sense of social responsibility.
In the past, the actor spent his weekends volunteering for an organization that teaches arts to inner-city school children, and these days he's involved with the USO -- United Service Organizations -- which means helping boost the morale of American soldiers who are far from home.
He visited Afghanistan in March with fellow actors Aaron Eckhart and Dax Shepard.
"We spent nine days there, flew into Kandahar and went out on Chinook helicopters. I wasn't that scared until we got there, when the reaction of the soldiers was one of complete disbelief. Because we really were on the front lines," he says, laughing. "That's when I felt a little trepidation."
Adds Cooper, "I love to experience things, and the opportunities I've been afforded as an actor -- you know, I got to campaign for Obama, went to Missouri two days before the election and saw him give a speech in Springfield, in a high school football field -- that kind of opportunity is incredible.
"So I also have the ability to go into a place like Afghanistan and really experience it, and at the same time be of service to the soldiers, which is very fulfilling. We go just to show support. Some of these guys haven't seen anybody for eight months, and to suddenly see a guy who was in a movie you saw? Their reaction is priceless."
