Tom Cruise now has some company in his upcoming film "The Last Samurai."
Actors Billy Connolly ("White Oleader"), Timothy Spall ("Vanilla Sky"), and Tony Goldwyn ("Bounce") have joined Cruise for the film, which is currently in pre-production, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
The movie centres on Civil War veteran-turned-captain Nathan Algren (Cruise) who travels to Japan to train the Japanese emperor's troops. As part of a change from the tradition of employing samurai warriors for protecting territories, the troops begin systematically eliminating them. Algren ends up being captured by the samurai, is taught their ways, and sides with them.
Connolly will play Agren's best friend, Spall will play an English translator, and Goldwyn takes on the role of Agren's commanding officer during the Civil war who gets him the job.
Production on "The Last Samurai" will begin later this year.
