Tom Cruise is on a mission to find a new director for "Mission: Impossible 3."
Joe Carnahan ("Narc"), who was set to assume the director's chair for the third installment in the popular franchise, has announced he will not helm the movie due to "creative differences," Variety reports.
Carnahan's departure will not affect the film's production launch or its June 29, 2005, release date, sources say.
No official word has emerged on a replacement, but Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner are reviewing a list of six candidates.
Ving Rhames, Carrie-Anne Moss, Kenneth Branagh and Scarlett Johansson have all signed on for "M:1 3".
Cruise can be seen next month as the bad guy in Michael Mann's thriller "Collateral."
