Billy Crystal is looking forward to the Academy Award ceremonies next Sunday.
"I'll be so relaxed because I'll be watching it at home from the couch instead of being up there on stage," admits Crystal, who's riding high on the box-office success of his new comedy Analyze This. "It's always been an incredible amount of work on my behalf to make hosting it look so effortless."
The past two years, Crystal opened the Oscars by placing himself in scenes from the five nominated movies. He knows what he would have done for a guest appearance in this year's Saving Private Ryan.
"When Tom Hanks is coming ashore in Private Ryan, I probably would have been a Nazi shooting at him yelling: 'He wins every year! But not this year buddy!' That's probably what I would have done."
Crystal's pal Whoopi Goldberg will host the Oscars this year.
He confesses he has "never seen any of the Oscar shows I've hosted.
"I may get brave enough to watch them when I get really old. Right now I'd be too critical of what I did."
Like James Bond, Crystal's motto is "never say never."
"I haven't said I'll never host the Oscars again. It's just that I didn't feel enthusiastic enough to devote so much time and energy to them this year."
