Director Brian De Palma is plotting a prequel to his 1987 hit gangster film "The Untouchables," Variety reports.
"The Untouchables: Capone Rising" will centre on young Al Capone's arrival in Chicago and his rise to criminal kingpin status.
It will also focus on his clash with his nemesis, Irish cop Jimmy Malone, the character played by Sean Connery in the original film.
The prequel is being written by "Rounders" scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
De Palma's various film credits include "Scarface," "Carrie," "The Bonfire of the Vanities" and the recently completed "Black Dahlia" with Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson.
