"Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp has been offered the role of Willy Wonka in a remake of the children's classic "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Variety reports.
Depp has been offered the part by director Tim Burton, and if he opts to sign on, production of the film would begin next year.
It would be the second movie based on the book by Roald Dahl. The 1971 version starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.
It would mark the fourth time Depp has collaborated with Burton. He previously worked with him on "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood" and "Sleepy Hollow."
