DiCaprio attack suspect held
By TAMARA CHERRY - Sun Media

TORONTO - A Toronto woman accused of slashing movie star Leonardo DiCaprio at a posh Hollywood party is being held for extradition to the United States, police said yesterday.

The announcement comes nearly four years after the Los Angeles Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Aretha Wilson, 39, who has since been charged, convicted and sentenced for a similar incident in Toronto.

Her troubles date to the early morning hours of June 17, 2005, at a posh Hollywood party thrown by Rick Salomon, who just two years earlier surfaced as a character in the scandalous home-made sex tape with hotel heiress Paris Hilton.

DiCaprio was on a break from filming The Departed when, according to Los Angeles police, he was allegedly approached by Wilson around 3 a.m.

The movie star told police he recognized Wilson as a friend's ex-girlfriend. When he turned to walk away from her, he felt something wet on his back before turning around and being hit in the neck and side of his head with a glass, police alleged.

The attack left DiCaprio with 17 stitches -- 10 to his ear and seven to his neck.

On July 12, 2005, an arrest warrant was issued for Wilson, wanted on one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

It is unknown when Wilson left the U.S., but her next run-in with police came on Super Bowl Sunday in Toronto the following year.

Wilson was accused of slashing ex-boyfriend Wyatt Cote, 34, with a Stella beer stein moments before he fell to his death from his eighth-floor Toronto balcony on Feb. 5, 2006.

She was found guilty of assault in April 2008 and given a suspended sentence and two years probation.

Yesterday, Toronto Police announced that the Los Angeles District Attorney's office contacted the Toronto Fugitive Squad asking for help in finding Wilson.

She was arrested Monday night for extradition to the U.S., police said.
