Vin eyes musical
By LOUIS B. HOBSON

Action star Vin Diesel says he's just a guy looking for a doll.

In a teleconference to promote the New Year's Eve DVD release of his summer blockbuster XXX, Diesel announced he was considering starring in a new version of the 1950s Broadway musical Guys And Dolls.

The 1955 film version starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra as the New York gamblers and Jean Simmons as the Salvation Army missionary who unknowingly becomes the subject of their latest outrageous bet.

Diesel, 35, didn't say which role he was eying, but he did say he's been talking to Nicole Kidman.

"Nicole is excited about the idea, so I think it may happen. I've got a couple of other movies I have to do first and so does she, so it won't happen immediately," says Diesel.

He's thrilled with the prospect, saying Guys And Dolls "would be the antithesis of something like XXX, to say the least."

He points out that musicals are in his blood.

"I grew up with a father who was heavily into the theatre arts, and musicals were a big part of that so I've always loved musicals.

"I don't know how good a singer I am but I know I can carry a tune."

He's quick to dispel any thought that he intends to embark on a career in music.

"I don't want to torture my fans by attempting a singing career. I think one musical would be just enough."

Diesel's next film is director F. Gary Gray's crime drama A Man Apart and he has committed to making sequels to XXX and his 2000 sci-fi movie Pitch Black, which is tentatively titled Chronicles Of Riddick.
