Eastwood buys rights to novel 'Mystic River'
By JAM! Movies

Clint Eastwood has snatched up the screen rights to Dennis Lehane's novel "Mystic River," with an eye to directing the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel, which was published in January, is the story of three Boston-area friends whose relationship ends when one of the boys is kidnapped. A quarter-century later, the men are reunited by a murder investigation into the death of one of the men's daughters.

The Hollywood Reporter said no start date is set, but Eastwood -- who won't likely take a part in the film -- is meeting with screenwriters to adapt the story. Eastwood is currently preparing "Blood Work," which he will produce, direct and star in.
