Young star Dakota Fanning is joining Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's version of "War of the Worlds," Variety reports.
The 10-year-old actress will play the daughter of Cruise's character.
The movie, an adaptation of H.G. Wells's 1898 classic novel about aliens invading Earth, will begin production in November for a summer 2005 release.
Fanning will be seen next in the thriller "Hide and Seek" opposite Robert De Niro.
