Fey no fan of Palin's politics
By -- Sun Media

Tina Fey may play a great Sarah Palin, but there's no damn way Fey is voting Republican.

Fey was being interviewed last night by E!'s Ryan Seacrest during the Emmy Awards red-carpet special when she threw any notion of political neutrality out the window.

Fey was on hand as a multiple Emmy nominee for her work on 30 Rock, but in recent weeks she made news for her return to Saturday Night Live to portray her doppelganger Palin, who is Republican John McCain's vice-presidential nominee.

Seacrest asked Fey, "Did (Palin) call you? Did she write? Will you guys hang out? If she were here tonight, would you have a drink?"

Fey replied, "If she is free in late November, I will hang out with her."

Then, in a whisper, but still clearly audible if you were listening carefully, Fey added, "And I hope she's free."

The U.S. election is Nov. 4.

REAL MESS: The co-hosts for the 60th annual Emmys on CTV and ABC were the five nominees for best reality host, and one couldn't help but feel that the rats were running the ship. Go back a decade, and if you had told any of the top U.S. network executives that five reality-TV hosts would be handling the Emmys some day, the network suits would have thought it was as preposterous as cable shows getting nominated.

Anyway, five reality hosts didn't add up to one decent host last night.

The opening bit, which featured Howie Mandel (Deal Or No Deal), Jeff Probst (Survivor), Heidi Klum (Project Runway), Tom Bergeron (America's Funniest Home Videos) and Seacrest (American Idol), was an unmitigated disaster.

They all just talked over each other about how they didn't really have anything to say. Sadly, that was all too accurate. "We have nothing; this is serious; this is not a bit," a nervous Mandel kept repeating.

It was supposed to be funny. It wasn't. The silence in the auditorium was deafening -- and humiliating.

The unfunny fiasco ended with William Shatner taking the stage to help Bergeron rip off Klum's tuxedo to reveal more sultry attire. Well, yukity yuk.

The first award of the evening went to Jeremy Piven of Entourage, who said bluntly, "What if I just kept talking for 12 minutes? What would happen? ... That was the opening!"

Back to the island, bozos.

OTTAWA SHOUT-OUT: As Seacrest was interviewing Canadian nominee Sandra Oh on the red carpet, she mentioned her family was on hand. So Seacrest called Oh's mom up to the podium. The truly terrified look on Oh's face was priceless. When Seacrest quickly asked Oh what her mom's name was, Oh answered, "Mrs. Oh."

Both of Oh's parents emerged, and after Seacrest asked Oh's mom where she was from -- "Ottawa," came the reply -- Seacrest quickly deduced there was a slight language barrier (Oh's parents are Korean immigrants). He deftly directed the interview back toward Oh.

THE GOOD: Singer Josh Groban's medley of TV themes was odd, but we admire his willingness to make a fool of himself ... Director Barry Sonnenfeld ended his acceptance speech with the slogan, "Love TV and fear the Internet."

THE BAD: The Laugh-In reunion was touching in theory, but uncomfortably awkward in practice ... Klum introduced presenter David Boreanaz as being from "The Bones" rather than Bones. Has she ever watched TV?

BELLE OF THE BALL: Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on The Office, stopped hearts in her light green gown. Like, wow! It's obvious what Toby sees in her.
