James Garner, unfailingly polite and deliciously funny, is one of the true, old-fashioned gentlemen of Hollywood.
When he arrives to chat about his latest film, Nick Cassavetes' The Notebook, he greets a room of journalists warmly. When he leaves later, hobbling slightly with a wolfhound-headed cane in hand to stabilize his walk, Garner turns and says sincerely: "Thank you very much."
