You won't see Ron Howard's name on the credits of the Canadian crowd-pleaser Mambo Italiano. But -- director Emile Gaudreault wryly admits -- without Opie's "help," Mambo might never have been made.
Gaudreault wrote Louis XIX, a Quebec comedy about a man whose life is captured by TV cameras for mass-amusement. Howard bought the rights and turned it into one of his least memorable movies -- EdTV, with Matthew McConaughey and Ellen DeGeneres.
