The year was 1975, and, as a young Stuart Gillard stood onstage as the newly-crowned Best Actor in Canada, he was oblivious to the fact that his acting career was over.
"There was a backlash against the award," says Gillard, now one of Hollywood's busiest movie and TV directors. He'd won the Etrog (precursor to the Genies) for the film Why Rock The Boat? "If you won," he says with a chuckle, "the attitude was, 'Oh, I guess you'll want more than scale now.'"
