Goldblum act too real for cops
By BILL HARRIS -- Sun Media

Before everyone between the ages of six and 60 had a cellphone, you might have been considered crazy if you were seen to be talking to yourself.

Just ask actor Jeff Goldblum, who plays a police detective who speaks to his own hallucinations in the new TV series Raines.

"As an actor, one of my rehearsal methods is to fantasize my partners," Goldblum said. "So I was in an acting class years ago and I thought I'd do my preparation on the street, right out on La Brea (in Los Angeles).

"I was kind of running through the scene, pounding myself on the chest, talking to myself, and doing some other things, maybe singing and stuff. And a police car pulls up." Goldblum pointed out that he wasn't well-known when this incident occurred, so there was no hope that the cops would recognize him and understand what he was up to.

"So they said, 'What are you doing, young fella?'" Goldblum recalled. "They looked into my eyes, follow my finger. And I said, no, no, no, you don't understand, I'm taking an acting class, And they said, well, where is this supposed acting class? And I said, right upstairs, but no, please ... " The officers grabbed Goldblum, ushered him upstairs and barged into the acting class, right in the middle of a scene. They asked the acting coach if Goldblum was, indeed, in the class. The coach confirmed it, and Goldblum was off the hook - but still embarrassed beyond belief.

"That happened," Goldblum said. "I'm telling you, it was terrible."
