Cuba Gooding Jr. is replacing Ryan Phillippe in the lead role of the indie thriller "Shadowboxer," Variety reports.

Gooding Jr. will be pairing up with Helen Mirren ("Calendar Girls") as a mother-stepson team of contract killers with an unusual bond.

Phillipe was initially tapped for the role, but was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.

"Shadowboxer" is being directed by newcomer Lee Daniels.
