A big screen adaptation of Edward Abbey's novel "The Monkey Wrench Gang" is in the works.
According to ProductionWeekly.com, Catherine Hardwicke ("The Nativity Story") will direct the film, which bears the same name as the book.
The novel is largely credited for inspiring the breed of environmental activists who specialize in sabotage, also known as "monkey-wrenching."
The film will follow the exploits of George Hayduke, an ex-Green Beret and Vietnam veteran, who returns home to find the environment in danger from industrial developments. Joined by a ragtag group of environmentalists, he wages war on the workers.
