Katie Holmes is being sought after to star opposite Christian Bale in the fifth installment of the "Batman" series, Variety reports.
The "Dawson's Creek" star is said to be close to signing a deal to play Rachel, the love interest of Batman, but is contingent upon a screen test.
The new "Batman" cast also includes Oscar-winning actor Michael Caine, who will take on the role of butler Alfred.
"Memento" director Christopher Nolan will head up next year's shoot, aiming for a 2005 release.
