Jackson signs for 'XXX' sequel

Samuel L. Jackson is reprising his role as secret agent Augustus Gibbons in the sequel to the hit action thriller "XXX," Variety reports.

The 54-year-old actor will star alongside Ice Cube, who will play the hero in "XXX2," replacing the star of the first movie, Vin Diesel.

The sequel will be directed by Lee Tamahori, who is best known for helming the James Bond adventure "Die Another Day."

"XXX2" will begin shooting next summer for a planned 2005 release.
