Tommy Lee Jones has signed on to direct and star in the indie film "The Three Burials of Malquides Estrada," Variety reports.

The film tells the story of an American ranch foreman in Texas whose effort to keep a promise to one of his illegal migrant workers reveals terrible crimes.

The movie is scheduled to begin production in September.
