'Darko' director Kelly tackles musical

"Donnie Darko" writer-director Richard Kelly has penned and will direct the comedy-musical "Southland Tales," Variety reports.

The film takes place in 2008 during a three-day Los Angeles heat wave leading up to a huge July 4 holiday celebration.
