It's a mad, mad, Mad City for Mia
By BOB THOMPSON

By BOB THOMPSON --

CAREER EN COUNTER: Actress Mia Kirshner wasn't in town earlier this week just to promote her co-starring role in Mad City with Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta, she also got some home cooking with her family.

Also on her social calendar was a Saturday Halloween Party -- she went as a fairy, of course.

The work portion of her return home to Toronto meant talking to the media at the Four Seasons Hotel Monday about the media movie, Mad City, opening Friday.

How things have changed for the 21-year-old part-time actress and full-time McGill University student.

Kirshner, the teenager, naively talked her way into working at Canada Square cinemas as a wily career move just a few years ago.

"I got a job in a movie theatre to meet somebody in the movies," she recalls. "Little did I know that being a popcorn girl wouldn't do it."
