Mighty Levy to sing at Oscars
By JANE STEVENSON

Eugene Levy is going to the Oscars.

No, the Hamilton-born comic didn't get an Oscar nod this week -- despite some major buzz for his role as a troubled singer in the folk music mockumentary A Mighty Wind.

Instead, Levy and his A Mighty Wind co-star and fellow Canuck Catherine O'Hara will sing the Oscar-nominated song A Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow, in character as the folk duo Mitch and Mickey, at the Academy Awards ceremony on Feb. 29.

Levy is up for two Grammys, related to the soundtrack for A Mighty Wind, on Feb. 8 in Los Angeles.

"That's the fun part about going to the Grammys -- you have nothing to do really except find out whether you win or not, as opposed to the Oscars, let's say, where Catherine and I will be singing our song," Levy told The Sun yesterday in an exclusive interview.

"That's a little work -- so that's good. It's going to be good. It's going to be fun."

In the film, A Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow is Mitch and Mickey's signature song. The song was written by co-star Michael McKean and his wife Annette O'Toole, who will receive the Oscar should it win.

Levy said he was minimally aware of the Oscar buzz surrounding his A Mighty Wind performance, which did garner him a supporting actor prize from the New York Film Critics Circle, and the film's original screenplay, which he co-wrote with director and co-star Christopher Guest.

"There was an article with 10 critics picking their choices and I was on three of the lists," said Levy. "But, as I said, at the New York Film Critics night, 'I have a few people to thank for this award and I want to get all my thank-yous in tonight because, unlike other recipients here, I think this is it for me.'

"That got a huge laugh," continued Levy. "But I was totally serious. I think it's fun to hear your name tossed around and stuff, but in all honesty, I've seen some of the films that are out there and I've seen the work out there and I know when it comes to something like the Oscars, it's really hard for a comedy to compete with competition like that."
