Q & A with Heather Locklear
By LOUIS B. HOBSON - Calgary Sun

Heather Locklear, 43, has been acting since she was 18 and she owes her career to her high school cheerleading coach. She didn't give her a place on the team so Heather joined the drama club instead.

Locklear is best known for her stints on such TV shows as Dynasty, Melrose Place, and Spin City. Recently she's been trying to forge a feature film career with Uptown Girls, Looney Tunes: Back in Action and The Perfect Man.

THE SUN: Your father was Dean of Engineering at UCLA. Were your parents disappointed that you dropped out of college?

LOCKLEAR: My mother denies it now but she told me to dance on tables if that would make me happy. She encouraged me to go after what I wanted.

THE SUN: Who were your acting idols when you started out?

LOCKLEAR: I've always thought Goldie Hawn is fabulous. She's probably one of my greatest inspirations.

THE SUN: You've built a career playing some pretty sexy characters. Was that a conscious decision or studio casting?

LOCKLEAR: I have a lot of fun playing sexy characters. I also have a lot of fun being sexy in real life. It might just be who I am.

THE SUN: There's a new Dynasty Anniversary DVD coming out. Does that news excite you?

LOCKLEAR: I don't want people to remember me for something I did in the past. I want them to be aware of the things I'm currently doing. That's how I want my career to be. I certainly won't buy the DVDs of my old TV series.

THE SUN: Do you get to accompany your husband Richie Sambora when he goes on tour with Bon Jovi?

LOCKLEAR: I go with him whenever I can and it's always a wonderful vacation for me. I get to stay in great hotels. It's not a holiday for Richie. He plays at night and does interviews during the day.

THE SUN: Is it true that you and Richie have mirrors on the ceiling above your bed?

LOCKLEAR: Doesn't everyone?
