Has Lindsay Lohan fallen into the Parent Trap?
The troubled starlet, arrested yesterday for the second time in two months for alleged drunk driving, may be following in her estranged father's footsteps.
"She's doing it out of pain, the same thing I did," Michael Lohan told 99.9 MIX FM's Mad Dog and Billie in an exclusive interview yesterday after news broke of his daughter's arrest.
"When I was torn from my family, I drank, I did coke, I partied, you know, I screwed around. She's doing the same exact thing I did."
The elder Lohan is no stranger to trouble. Jailed for securities fraud and later assault and driving violations, Michael Lohan and his ex-wife Dina then waged a bitter divorce and custody battle.
Lohan's father said he and his ex-wife need to set aside their differences to help their daughter.
"Dina's afraid that if I'm back in Lindsay's life, then I turn it around, and I'll get credit for turning her life around, but I don't care about me. I care about my daughter and other children being okay," he said. "There's too much pride and greed involved in this and I want nothing but to be there for my kids, while everyone else wants everything else."
The Mean Girls' star was arrested with a small amount of cocaine in her pocket, which frightened her father.
"Lindsay is a severe asthmatic - her heart beats like a bird, cocaine can blow up her heart at any time," Michael Lohan said. "She doesn't even realize that. My 27-year-old cousin died of the same thing."
He wants his daughter to learn from his mistakes.
"If she's going to look at what I did wrong, then look at what I did right too, look at how I turned it around," he said. "She doesn't need a 30- or 60-day rehab -- she needs long-term rehab and she needs her father."
Lohan Sr. said he tried to reach his daughter four times yesterday before her arrest in Santa Monica.
"Her assistant Jenny said, 'Mr. Lohan, she wants to talk to you, she'll get back to you -- she's in her dance lessons for her next movie,'" her father said. "You have no clue, it breaks my heart. I can't take this." On the set of Two And Half Men yesterday during the annual Television Critics Association tour in L.A., actor Charlie Sheen said when asked about his reputation as a bad boy, "Well, recently, others apparently have snatched the torch from me."
Sheen declined to offer specific advice to Lohan.
