Q & A with Breckin Meyer
By LOUIS B. HOBSON - Calgary Sun

Breckin Meyer has become a family man both on screen and off. He and his wife, director Deborah Kaplan, have a 21/2-year-old daughter, Keaton Meyer. He starred this summer as Lindsay Lohan's brother in the Disney movie Herbie: Fully Loaded and also in Rebound with Martin Lawrence.

THE SUN: How do you feel about getting roles in so many family movies in a row?

MEYER: These family movies are giving me a whole new fan base and it's not going to go away anytime soon. Movies like Garfield and any Disney movie have a huge shelf life.

THE SUN: How is it dealing with such a young fan base?

MEYER: The younger ones want to know where Garfield is. If they're a little older they just want to tell how much they liked the movie.

THE SUN: We understand your character -- Ray Peyton Jr. -- had much of his back story cut from Herbie.

MEYER: Ray Jr.'s heart isn't in racing. He wants to be a drummer in a band but that's all gone. Now I basically get to crash a couple of cars, say my sister is the family's real hope and hug Lindsay.

THE SUN: How was going to racing school to prepare for your role?

MEYER: I can't drive a stick so they gave me one with an automatic transmission. I got mocked big time.

THE SUN: Tell us why it was such a big deal for you to work with Michael Keaton in Herbie. Is he a hero of yours?

MEYER: I named my daugher Keaton after him. I guess you could say I am a huge fan. Beetle Juice is my all-time favourite movie. I didn't dare tell Michael what his career means to me. I didn't want to creep him out.

THE SUN: Anything else memorable about filming with Lindsay Lohan?

MEYER: Lindsay was dating Wilmer Valderrama at the time so I got to party with them. Wilmer is like the mayor of L.A. He knows everybody. Those parties were a real eye-opener for me because that's not really my thing.
