Singer-actress Mandy Moore may be known for teen movies or romantic comedies, but when she gets back to acting, likely in the fall, she wants to shake her image up a bit like she did in the 2004 religious satire Saved! and/or the 2007 indie dramedy Dedication, opposite Billy Crudup.
"It's difficult because people do see me in a certain way and I'm really aware of that," said Moore. "It's like, 'Oh, she's so nice!' And I'm like, 'Thank you, I appreciate it.'
"There is always more than what's meet the eye and I hopefully because people would consider me a nice person that doesn't mean I'm not up for up for the challenge of playing something or being someone totally outside of myself. That's the fun of being an actor," Moore says.
"I really yearn for something that would help me go somewhere that kind of scares me a little bit. I really want to investigate other sorts of things and be a part of more films like Saved! or this little film called Dedication where I'm like, 'Wow, I'm scared to work with Billy Crudup and I'm intimidated. But you know what, I'm going to get through it somehow.'
"Or like Saved! 'It's crazy all these (Christian) kids my age!' Just things that you know are going to push buttons or create a dialogue. That's the stuff that propels you forward."
