TORONTO -- Kati Outinen admits she was the most surprised person at Cannes when she won best actress for her role in Aki Kaurismaki's dry, socially conscious comedy The Man Without A Past.
For one thing, characters in Kaurismaki's films tend to hardly move so much as a facial muscle. (By the way, did you know, Outinen informs us, that the Finnish language has 20 words for 'sorrow?') "Finns find it very hard to express emotions," she says. "And Aki, in particular, wants it that way. He'll stop filming to tell us to stop acting."
