LOS ANGELES -- Jason Patric is as much of a loner in real life as his
August King character in The Journey August King.
Patric, the man Julia Roberts ran to when she called off her marriage
to Kiefer Sutherland, doesn't even reveal anything in his biography.
In the notes for this movie, newcomer Thandie Newton's biography is
nearly double that of her co-star.
"If you're concerned with your image, that's going to affect your
instincts," says the soft-spoken Patric, who plays a lonely widow who falls in
love with a runaway slave (Newton).
"I don't have any friends in the business," says Patric.
When questioned about his links to Roberts, Patric changes the
subject after quickly stating: "No actors please -- I don't have that on my
door!"
In much of August, Patric leads around a dairy cow. "In between takes
I would squirt people."
The only peek the star of Geronimo, Rush and After Dark, My Sweet,
will give into the man behind the actor is his pet: "I have a 120-lb.
Vietnamese pot-belly pig in the backyard. His name is Ferrgus.
"I've always liked pigs."
