.Overnight, Patric's life was turned into a media zoo because he had moved in with Julia Roberts just weeks after she called off her wedding to Patric's friend, Kiefer Sutherland.

Patric and Roberts remained an item for just over a year.

"It was baptism by flashbulbs. Considering the kind of private person I am, that year was the ultimate nightmare," he recalls.

Patric says he has little sympathy for people like Roberts who try to shun the press after spending so much time courting them.

"My advice to these kind of people is that if you invite those media hounds to your wedding, don't expect them not to be interested in your divorce. You're as interesting to the press in your worst times as you are in your best times."

Patric is currently dating supermodel Christy Turlington, but having been royally burned once, he's doubly cautious.

"That part of my life is completely off-bounds. I know that actors can be anonymous people," he says, referring to his own parents.

Patric is the son of Jason Miller, the star of The Exorcist and the writer of the play That Championship Season. His mother, actress Linda Miller, is the daughter of the late Jackie Gleason.

Gleason "was never part of my life. I prefer to see how my parents handled their private and professional lives," Patric says.
