Jason Patric is set to play legendary frontiersman Jim Bowie in "The Alamo."
According to Variety, Patric will join Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton and Patrick Wilson in the John Lee Hancock-directed film set to begin shooting later this month on a 40-acre replica set of the Alamo.
Mark Johnson is producing the movie along with Brain Grazer and Ron Howard, who according to the Internet Movie Database, was previously slated to direct but decided against it. Russell Crowe was also originally signed on to star in the Texas tale, but opted out.
Patric, 36, has appeared in such films as "The Lost Boys," "Sleepers," and "Speed 2: Cruise Control." His latest film, "Narc," opens Friday.
"The Alamo" is scheduled for a December release.
