Michelle Pfeiffer has a wonderful singing voice, and she's been singing in movies since her 1982 effort in Grease II.
She warbled her way nicely through The Fabulous Baker Boys and Hairspray, among others.
But, she says, "My first love is really acting, and I think if you're going to be a singer you have to really commit and put a lot of time into it. I don't have a natural gift. I'm a crammer. In fact, when I did Hairspray, I hadn't taken a voice lesson since Baker Boys. No, wait -- I did a little thing in Prince of Egypt.
"Anyway, I do a lot of cramming before I have to sing for a film, hence, I probably don't enjoy it because I feel the pressure. If I trained year round, not only would I sing better but it would probably be more fun.
"I do enjoy it, but I've never been able to really split my artistic inclinations. I'm also a painter, but when I act, I don't pick up a paintbrush."
Who gets to see those canvases?
"My family, or whoever happens to wander into my basement, which is where they're stored."
