Joaquin Phoenix has voluntarily checked himself into a rehabilitation facility for treatment of alcoholism, Reuters reports.
"He was uncomfortable with the way that he was living his life and found the courage to deal with the disease," said a statement from his publicist Susan Patricola.
The actor, whose brother River Phoenix died of a drug overdose in 1993, checked himself into rehab two weeks ago.
Phoenix has starred in such films as "Signs," "The Village" and "Gladiator," and plays hard-living country singer Johnny Cash in the upcoming movie "Walking the Line," which is scheduled for release later this year.
