Kelly Preston's alien affair
By LOUIS B. HOBSON

Last July, the residents of Islesboro, Me., were shocked to see a low-flying jet circling the 42-room mansion of John Travolta.

The jet circled the area three times, shaking neighbouring homes. The residents of this small community were used to Travolta flying his small planes above his home for the amusement of his young son, Jett. But they were disturbed that such a large plane should come so close to the ground.

The Federal Aviation Authority promised it would investigate, but no charges have been laid.

Travolta's wife Kelly Preston admits it was her husband flying.

"Most of the people we spoke to were thrilled by the experience. They certainly didn't tell us they were terrified. We are under the impression that it was only one or two people who complained. John just wanted to show Jett and I that he was at the controls of a large jet plane," she says.

"He meant no harm to anyone."

Seven years ago, a group of residents in the Spruce Creek area of Islesboro sued Travolta to stop him from landing his Gulf Street II jet on the runway of his home.

Travolta is currently in Montreal filming his sci-fi epic Battlefield Earth, in which he plays a gigantic alien creature.

"I haven't seen John in full makeup yet, but because Montreal is just a short hop away from our home in Maine, he's with us every moment he can be," says Preston. She adds "soon I will know what he looks like because I am going to do a one-day cameo as an alien myself. John promises my makeup will be really wild, so I can hardly wait."
