She plays a flight attendant opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Christina Applegate in the comedy View from the Top.
In the romantic comedy What a Girl Wants, Preston plays Amanda Bynes' mother.
The woman is a single mother who works as a singer at weddings and social functions.
"I'm primarily a shower singer," says Preston. "I've done some karaoke with my girlfriends, but I would never call myself a singer."
Still, she insisted on trying to do her own singing instead of having her songs dubbed.
"I thought I'd have more time to lay down the tracks, but I was cast pretty late in the project. What I thought was just a temporary track ended up being the one they used in the film."
Preston is currently filming the Dr. Seuss classic The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers.
"Mike is just adorable and so funny and the sets and costumes are truly magnificent," says Preston.
"I play the mother of the two children. In the book, you just see her leg, but I'm the body behind her. I have no scenes with Mike but I did get to watch him work and it's amazing how talented he is.
"Most of my scenes are with Alec Baldwin, who is really hilarious both on and off camera."
