Guess Who's song they used?
By JANE STEVENSON -- Sun Media
CULVER CITY, Calif. -- Can-rock gets a major boost in the new high school comedy Superbad, in theatres Friday. The Guess Who hit These Eyes is prominently featured during a hilarious scene where the Brampton, Ont.-born actor Michael Cera, playing an awkward high schooler, winds up at a strange party and is forced to sing the tune a cappella in front of a bunch of older cokeheads. "We actually did three versions of that scene because we didn't know if we could afford These Eyes," said Superbad director Greg Mottola. "I mean, it's a stretch to believe that a present-day teenage kid would know These Eyes but, you know, those songs don't go away. Classic rock never goes away. You can't walk into a deli without hearing that song. And we did a version where he sang Thong Song by Sisqo, which was very funny the way Michael did it, but somehow These Eyes was much, much, funnier. And there's a version where he dances, I think that'll be on the DVD version, just 'cause watching Michael Cera doing anything physical is hilarious." |
