Kurt Russell has taken the lead role in the horse racing drama "Dreamer," Variety reports.

The movie tells the story of a Kentucky horse trainer (Russell) and his 11-year-old son who rehabilitate a horse with a broken leg and take it to the Breeders' Cup.

The film, directed by John Gatins, will begin shooting in September for a 2005 release.
