The whopping success of Chicago is opening the musical floodgates.
Joel Schumacher has been signed to direct the much-delayed screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Phantom of the Opera with Lloyd Webber himself producing.
For the role of the Phantom, Lloyd Webber has been talking to Hugh Jackman, who was a musical theatre star in Australia and England before he played Wolverine in X-Men.
Vin Diesel and Nicole Kidman are still in talks with one of Chicago's producers Marty Richards to star in his proposed remake of Guys and Dolls.
Richards has also announced plans to film The Life, a 1996 musical about hookers and hustlers in New York's infamous Times Square area.
He also has plans to film Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
