Kathleen Turner is Broadway-bound -- but she's making a stop in Toronto first.
Clear Channel Entertainment and David and Ed Mirvish announced yesterday that the hit London production of The Graduate -- starring Turner, Jason Biggs and Alicia Silverstone -- will play Toronto's Canon Theatre in a 32-performance pre-Broadway run starting Jan. 23.
The Graduate, directed by Terry Johnson, who also adapted the tale from Charles Webb's novel, closed in London in March, having set records for the highest opening advance of any play in the history of the West End.
In it, Turner bared all and won standing ovations as the middle-aged temptress Mrs. Robinson in the new stage version of the play.
Anne Bancroft offered Dustin Hoffman just a tantalizing glimpse of stocking in the 1967 hit film. But the 46-year-old Turner dropped her towel before the wide-eyed student Benjamin.
It was all done discreetly, but obviously was a crowd pleaser. Jessica Lange and Jerry Hall followed in Turner's, er, footsteps.
Now Turner returns in the production that comes to Toronto on the heels of a 10-day run in Baltimore and will move on to Boston, where it will play Feb. 20 to March 10. Then it's off to Broadway where it will open April 4.
Tickets for the Toronto run are priced from $25 to $93 and will go on sale Dec. 3.
